Pump Guards and Pump Base Design for SBS

Overview

We had a job from SBS to whip up some pump guards and a pump base that not only meets their requirements but also makes life easier on site. Using a laser scanner, we got our hands on some solid data in e57 file format to kick things off.

The Process

First off, we imported that scanner data into our Reverse Engineering Software, where we got to work enhancing the quality and alignment of the data. Once everything was aligned, we extracted the dimensions using Sketch with Mesh, which set the stage for our designs.

Pump Guards

For the pump guards, our goal was to create a design that allowed for easy removal without having to take the pump apart. We tailored the guards based on the pump’s position, ensuring they fit snugly while still being practical. The guards were designed in sheet metal, and we made sure to provide detailed manufacturing drawings with all necessary dimensions, along with DXF files and bending tables for the fabricators. After the design was complete, we cross-checked it against the scan data, ensuring both the top and bottom guards had the right clearance for a perfect fit.

Pump Base

Next up, we tackled the pump base, using the scan data to create a robust structure designed to lift the pump. This base was built using angles and square tubes, all up to Australian standards. Along with the design, we provided a Bill of Materials (BOM) and comprehensive manufacturing drawings.

Outcome

In the end, we delivered a complete package: the pump guards and base, all properly designed and ready for manufacturing. SBS can now proceed confidently, knowing their equipment is protected and easily accessible, making their operations smoother and safer. It’s all about keeping things efficient and hassle-free!
