Mill Feed Chute Wear Plates Design

Overview

We copped a job to design some mill feed chute wear plates, and the first thing we did was fire up the laser scanner to grab the site data in an e57 file format. From there, we imported it into Reverse Engineering Software to get everything lined up and cleaned. Once the data was sorted, we pulled out the dimensions using Sketch with Mesh.

The Process

With the exact measurements in hand, we designed the wear plates to fit the hopper perfectly. We made sure there was enough clearance when all the plates were assembled, so they’d slot in without a hitch. Once the design was all squared away, we knocked out individual drawings for each plate and provided the DXF files for laser cutting.

Outcome

Solid wear plates designed to take a beating, with all the manufacturing drawings and cutting files ready to go. We made sure they fit the hopper like a glove, and the fabricators are all set to kick off production. Too easy!
